The Microbiology and Immunity Graduate Certificate Program focuses on advanced education in basic and clinical aspects of microbiology and immunology while providing students with detailed and medically relevant knowledge in the areas of bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and immunology.

The Microbiology and Immunity Graduate Certificate Program, offered through the Department of Immunobiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson, focuses on providing advanced education in basic and clinical concepts of microbiology, immunology, and infectious diseases. Students will attain detailed, medically relevant knowledge of important topics in the fields of bacteriology, virology, mycology, parasitology, and immunology. This knowledge will enhance the student’s ability to be successful in a variety of biomedical science disciplines, a research career, or to succeed in further graduate or medical education. The program can be completed either independently or concurrently as a complement to another graduate program.

The Department of Immunobiology engages in medical and graduate student teaching, performs research on all aspects of host/microbe interaction, immune system function and dysfunction and microbial pathogenesis. The core mission of the Department of Immunobiology, consistent with the missions of the College of Medicine – Tucson and the University of Arizona, is to perform cutting edge research and to disseminate its results through teaching of new health professionals, scientists, and the public. The department's research goals are to better understand the role of the immune system in health and disease with the focus on pathogens. The department trains and educates physicians, scientists, and students in all areas of immunobiology and microbiology.
